A conference fully dedicated to festivals

Yourope presents the 4th European Festival Conference. A gathering and summit of festival promoters in a unique conference format related to all the festival topics. We already enjoyed the beautiful setting of Mas Salagros incl. first class food and wellness offers near Barcelona in 2019. After two missing seasons in 2020/2021 due to the corona crisis, we feel it’s time to gather again within the European festival family.

It is our aim to bring people together and encourage exchange. In this special year and with this special EFC edition, we have decided to experience and work together in the group as much as possible. That is why we decided against a fragmented conference program and in favour of a limited number of workshops and sessions that allow everyone to collect as many impressions as possible from all participants. In addition we give you more time and room for direct personal exchange and prepare a cool environment to do so with our EFC networking excursions.

Let’s exchange, discuss and get energized and inspired for the European festival season 2022. Two days of seminars, workshops, outdoor activity and networking excursions in an outstanding and intimate conference and 100% ecofriendly hotel 20 minutes from Barcelona.

Festival conference package & registration:

EFC sessions & events

EFC Opening & The state of the festival community

with Christof Huber (YOUROPE chairman) & Holger Jan Schmidt (YOUROPE General Secretary)
feat. inputs by Henrik Nielsen (Roskilde Festival & YES Group), Claire O'Neill (A Greener Festival) et. al.

We will start this gathering of the European music festival community with an open exchange on where we are at right now. We want to talk about how we are coming out of the pandemic, what has changed, and which new challenges occurred. We also need to look ahead and try to forecast what this decade will bring. We will include several EFC participants sharing cases, experiences, challenges, and developments from all over Europe. In this opening session we will pinpoint the hot topics for the festivals and like to give you food for thought and exchange in your personal discussions during the conference and beyond.

EFC workshop “Creating the safe festival experience of the future”

Presented by YES Group, GO Group, EMAC Group and Take A Stand
feat. inputs by Marta Pallares (Primavera Sound), Mikko Niemelä (Ruisrock Festival) et. al.

This workshop is a premier. All of Yourope’s working groups collectively take you on a journey to create a vision for our future festivals. After two festival seasons not happening due to health & safety reasons the mission for us in this session is to rethink the “safe festival experience” together with you choosing a holistic approach. To mention just a few questions we will ask: how can diversity and inclusion management at festivals encourage good behaviour? Can we improve our events’ communication to increase the feeling of safety? How are sustainability and safety linked and do changes towards climate goals have effects? How has the pandemic changed the perception and expectations of those involved - be it our teams, guests, artists, etc.? We will start with a couple of inspirational inputs before diving deep into dedicated group work to jointly collect and create ideas of what festivals can achieve – on their own, but also together.

EFC Keynote

by Michael Fritz (co-founder of Viva con Agua de St.Pauli)

Michael will talk about 15 years of social activism at festivals (and beyond) that helped providing fresh drinking water for more than 3,5 million people in need. Viva con Agua is a prime example of achieving great things when many people contribute a little. Get inspired by a thoroughbred activist and probably the only person on the planet who has ever given Ed Sheeran a roll of toilet paper as a gift. He will surely tell you why.
Presented by Take A Stand

The Value of Events

with Azucena Micó (Sound Diplomacy), Andreas Groth Clausen (Roskilde Festival)

In this session we will present different approaches to measure the impact of festivals from two different angles. The first one works by analysing economic, social and environment benefits brought to communities – developed by Sound Diplomacy and tested in cooperation with the city of Barcelona. The other is a new state of the art tool to make the value of sponsorship tangible, which is part of a project conducted by Roskilde Festival.

The Future of Music Festivals

with Johannes Jacobi (Höme - für Festivals)

We are looking forward to the presentation of the results of Europe's biggest festival survey so far with answers of 37,000 fans from 800 festivals. The survey has been part of Höme’s "Festival Playground" initiative created during the challenges of the pandemic with clear focus on our industry's future. This will be food for thought and even discussion as well.

The Legal Session

with Prof. Dr. Ralf Kitzberger

Much has changed during the pandemic. In addition, there are weather events related to climate change and the need for clarification with regard to competencies and responsibilities. Let's talk about it in this extended interactive Q&A with YOUROPE's lawer on standard terms, annexes, clauses and insurances that should help you prepare for the festival season 2022.

EFC networking excursion #1

Hike, guided tour and wine tasting

We will hike through the hills and woods toward the Llebeig vineyard of Oriol Artigas, producer of natural wines. Oriol will give us a guided tour through the vineyard which will be completed by a tasting of a selection of his natural wines. We hope to feed your passion and determination by learning about his. Be excited!

EFC networking excursion #2

Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona - guided tour

The Palau is an architectural jewel of Catalan Art Nouveau and the only concert venue in this style to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It represents an essential landmark in the cultural and social life as well as a symbolic emotional heritage. Together we visit an impressive and historical place of culture and beauty, which we are guaranteed not to leave without inspiration.

Mas Salagros EcoResort

Our 100% sustainable EFC venue just outside Barcelona

The not-so-secret star of the conference is the breathtaking home for this year's EFC, Mas Salagros, located in a nature reserve, with views of the Parc de la Serralada Litora. EFC uses this high-class eco resort exclusively during the conference period. Three nights’ accommodation and all meals are included in the conference fee. Lunches and dinners are served in the exquisite resort-owned Restaurant 1497 and yes, the AIRE Ancient Baths on site are open for your wellness as well.
